Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland woke up without power on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, bringing wind gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Residents witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams activated to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, nearly one thousand households in the southern state also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services received over five hundred requests for assistance across the region, mostly for property damage but also for fallen timber and flooding.

During the peak on yesterday, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were without power.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were predicted to continue along much of Queensland's east this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the current weather patterns.
